Hidden Springs Nursery in Tennessee - a commercial solar greenhouse

A 2,500 ft/sup 2/ greenhouse in Tennessee incorporates glazing on the south wall and roof to receive solar heating. The greenhouse receives a total of 4.5 hrs sunlight on the winter solstice. The glazing area totals 2,400 ft/sup 2/ and is composed of fiberglass reinforced acrylic backed by polyethylene. The north, east, and west walls are insulated to R-19 and the floor is gravel fill on clay to provide some heat storage. Other heat storage is provided by water filled drums. Two air flows are set up by the design of the building and contribute to heating at night and natural ventilation through a series of vents provides summer cooling.
