The cargo handling story of the year is the need for coal export facilities on all three US coasts. Expanded and additional coal loading facilities on all three coasts, particularly on the West Coast, are needed. Various coal-handling facilities discussed were the Port of Baltimore (east coast), Philadelphia, Gulf Coast, four new coal export terminals designed or planned for the New Orleans area, and the West Coast area. Containerization has been invested into heavily in China and India. Container handling equipment has improved tremendously; however, search for container handling perfection is continuing. (DP)
