The Hearings explore the demand for Midwest coal for export, the level of this demand, and the capacity of the present transportation system to handle the potential levels of traffic. Addressed is the ability of the nation's railways to transport coal from mines to ports in New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Norfolk, and New Orleans to handle the huge expected increase in export traffic.
