Sun Oil Co. is conducting a $12 million expansion project at its Snyder Natural Gasoline Plant. When the expansion project is completed later this year, the plant's gas-handling capacity will be increased from 90 MMcfd to 160 MMcfd. In addition to increasing the capacity of natural gas, a new process designed to extract 70% of the ethane and nearly 100% of the heavier components contained in the gas will be installed. Total liquid recovery at design inlet volume will be about 43,900 bpd. From the standpoint of liquid recovery, the Snyder plant will be one of the larger gas processing plants in the world. Residue gas is being purchased by El Paso Natural Gas Co. and Lone Star Gas Co. Present production is about 600,000 gal per day. The 4 main products are propane, isobutane, normal butane, and natural gasoline. Methane will be added once the expansion is completed. Production will increase from 1.5 to 2 million gal. With the addition of the methane recovery, the Snyder plant will be the world's biggest producer of low-pressure liquid-gas products.
