Intravarietal differences in wheat seed reactions to gamma radiation as related to differences in seed quality

Journal Article · · Radiobiology (USSR) (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:5500660

A comparative evaluation was made of the effects of ..gamma.. radiation on Krasnozernaya variety of spring wheat seeds differing in quality, according to test criteria characterizing the condition of the plants and structure of harvest. It was established that there are significant differences between different seed fractions of the same variety, with regard to their reaction to radiation, particularly with exposure to a dose of 20 kR. Large-seed fractions as a whole were found to be more radioresistant than small-seed ones.
