Comparison between health effects of cadmium and cadmium concentration in urine among inhabitants of the itai-itai disease endemic district

Journal Article · · Environ. Res.; (United States)

The relationship between urinary cadmium concentration and the health effects of cadmium exposure in 406 inhabitants of an area in Japan afflicted with itai-itai disease was studied. Total protein, glucose, calcium, and phosphorus in urine and in serum served as indices of health effects. Results indicate that prevalence rates of indices of health effects increased proportionately with increasing cadmium concentrations in urine. 17 references, 1 table.
