OXINOL blending component, a blend of methanol and gasoline-grade tertiary-butyl alcohol, has been successfully market tested by both Atlantic Richfield Company and Sun Company. The results of these market tests, covering the blending, distribution, and customer satisfaction with OXINOL gasoline blends, are discussed. In addition, this paper reviews the octane value of OXINOL and other alcohol blending components, the blending characteristics of these components and compare their economic value relative to other octane enhancers, including refinery processing options.
