Ambient air standards for lead must be based solely on potential human health effects because other effects will automatically be taken care of. The following criteria are discussed in evaluating the air quality values for lead. They are: physical and chemical properties; potential harmful effects on humans, animals, vegetation and materials; annoyance effects; and air sampling and analysis. The recommended value for lead has been derived from controlled exposures using human subjects and is 10 ..mu..g/m/sup 3/ of air averaged over thirty days.
