Total particulate matter

Book ·
OSTI ID:5408531
This guide is concerned with the total problem of solid atmospheric particulates but not with specific materials. The following criteria are discussed in evaluating the air quality values for total particulate matter. They are: physical and chemical properties; potential harmful effects on humans, animals, and vegetation; nuisance factors, such as effects on materials, visibility and climate. Air quality values for total particulate matter must be selected so as to reflect aesthetic and psychological attitudes. Air quality values are recommended with a goal of controlling air pollution so that the community is a desirable place in which to live. The recommended values for suspended particulates are 75 ..mu..g/m/sup 3/ (air basin average) and 120 ..mu..g/m/sup 3/ (single point measurement).
