Demand 77. [EPRI's second forecast: to year 2000]

Journal Article · · EPRI J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5351965
Electric power demand is forecast by the Electric Power Research Institute to increase at a faster rate than that of total energy, although its share is projected to grow at a declining rate. Covering each sector of the economy, the forecasts are based on econometric modeling of energy comsumption behavior to determine how energy is actually used in baseline, high-consumption, and conservation scenarios. Analysis of the forecasts indicates a need for functional and sectoral disaggregation and for more work on non-transportation consumption of natural gas and petroleum. Disaggregation is indicated in the industrial sector because of the expected slow growth of electricity-intensive industries relative to that of industries using other fuels; in the residential sector because of demographic classes; and in the commercial sector because of its diversity. Regional differences also need to be considered when making national forecasts. 4 references. (DCK)
