The body of information in this paper is directed to individuals interested in comprehensive assessments of mobile air pollution sources in urban areas, especially those pertaining to developing countries. The authors' premise is that diesel vehicles may have a greater influence on air quality in Mexico City than in USA cities because of the large number of diesel vehicles and because of a number of other factors prevalent in Mexico City (such as altitude, meteorology including unusual photochemistry, and sometimes-poor engine maintenance).
