IMPROVEMENTS IN APPARATUS FOR GENERATING THERMONUCLEAR ENERGY BY FUSION OF ATOM NUCLEI

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4842336
A thermonuclear reactor is described which avoids the disadvantages entailed in magnetic mirror machines and stellarators. In this reactor, a plasma is injected from an ion source into a receptacle containing a ring-shaped electrical conductor. The ring conductor is energized to form a toroidal magnetic field, and a second magnetic field is superimposed on the first to result in a net toroidal magnetic field with helical field lines, causing the plasma to follow a helical path around the ring conductor.
