A thermonuclear reactor is designed which has improved plasma-confining properties and reduced plasma losses by collisions. The reactor comprises an annular electrical conductor with spokes extending inward to a support pillar. The spokes convey electric current to the conductor for setting up a magnetic field to confine the plasma within two toroidal surfaces, and two electrodes located in the toroidal surfaces generate an electric field perpendicular to the magnetic field.
