Separation and Purification of Rare Earth Elements by Fractional Crystallization. IV. Purifications of Cerium Group Elements by Fractional Crystallizations of Double Salts of Nitrates (in Japanese)

Journal Article · · Kogyo Kagaku Zasshi
By fractional crystallizations of double salts of nitrates, binary mixtures of cerium-group elemen were purified. The samples of binary mixtures used in these experiments were ohtained by the fractional crystallization of double magnesium nitrate. In the purification of La and Pr from La- Pr mixture, the fractional crystallization of double ammonium nitrate was carried out using 10% HNO₃ solution. Ce was added as the separating element. The fractional crystallization of double manganese nitrate was used for the purification of Nd from Pr-Nd mixture. In this case, concentrated HNO/sub 3/ solution was chosen as the solvent. Sm was purified from Sm-- SIGMA STAY! mixture by fractional crystallization of double bismuth nitrate, using 30% HNO₃ solution. Pure oxides of La, Pr, Nd, and Sm were obtained. The conditions of separation of cerium-group elements were known from the behavior of elements, and distribution charts of elements were obtained during the process of each fractional crystallization.
