Ion exchange separation of cerium earths was studied by treating 200 g of monazite sand. Fractional precipitation and crystallization were used to separate La, Ce, Pr, Nd, and Sm. Ion exchange purification was put into practice using these fractional parts. Amounts obtained were 12.2, Nd/sub 2/O/sub 3/, and Sm/sub 2/O/sub 3/, respectively. (auth)
