Radiation Protective Effect of Ethyl Palmitate (in German)

A study was made to determine whether ethyl palmitate exerted a radiation protective effect in x-irradiated mammals in the same manner as a surgical splenectomy. White mice, aged 7 to 10 weeks and weighing 20 to 23 g, received intravenous injections of ethyl palmitate before irradiation. The survival rate of mice treated with this compound sharply increased. It is suggested that the protective effect of ethyl palmitate can be described as a chemical splenectomy.''
