PHARMACOLOGY AND TOXICOLOGY OF NIOBIUM CHLORIDE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4833033

The acute intraperitoneal and oral LD/sub 50//7 days of 61 (56.1 to 66.4) mg/kg and 940 (929.8 to 950.3) mg/kg showed that niobium chloride was one of the most toxic of the rarer chemiocals. After feeding niobium chloriode to groups of rats for 12 weeks, no significant changes were noted in either growth rate or the hemogram, but liver damage was observed. Localized severe damage to the skin was produced by direct contact with the chemical. Transient ocular irritatmon but no permanent damage was also produced by direct contact with the chemical. Niobium chloride produced cardiovascular collapse and respiratory paralysis in the cat at a dose of 5 mg/kg, but did not affect the pharmacological responses to epinephrine, acetylcholine, or histamine or those produced by stimulation of the cervical sympathetmc or vagus nerves.
