THE INCORPORATION OF TRITIATED THYMIDINE INTO THE DNA OF HUMAN BREAST TUMORS IN VITRO
A technique is described for use in the pre-clinical screening of potential chemo-therapeutic agents in human neoplasms. Preliminary results indicate that needle biopsy is practical for obtaining tissue samples for studies on the effects of chemotherapeutic agents and radiation on the synthesis of desoxyribonucleic acids in tumor tissues. Results are reported from studies on the incorporation of thymidine-H3 into the desoxyribonucleic acid of breast cancer and the effects of estradiol therapy on the uptake of formate and thymidine in tumor tissues. The effects of x irradiation on the incorporation of tritiated thymidine into tumor desoxyribonucleic acid were also studied. Data are tabulated. (C.H.)
