TRITIATED THYMIDINE AND THE STUDY OF TUMORS

Recent work on the proliferation of normal and tumor cells using tritiated thymidine is reviewed. It is shown how autography of labelled cells, in conjunction with radiochemical analysis of tritium in tissue slices, enables one to develop a quantitative treatment of the problem of cell proliferation, and how this contributes to an understanding of the kinetics of proliferation of normal and of tumor cells.
