POTENTIOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF URANIUM. REDUCTION WITH CHROMOUS SULFATE AND TITRATION WITH CERIC SULFATE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4830750
Uranium may be determlned with hlgh accuracy by reductlon with Cr II ln H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ solutlon, removal of excess Cr II with an air purge, addltlon of excess Fe/sup 3+/, and titratlon of the equlvalent Fe/sup 2+/ wlth standard Ce(SO/sub 4/)/sub 2/. Titra tlon ls carrled out on an automatic titrator, uslng a potentlometrlc end-polnt. Zlrconlum and niobium do not lnterfere when the proper precautions are observed. Tln appears to lnterfere sllghtiy. lron ls titrated quantitatlvely, but may be corrected for by a separate determlnatlon. At the 50 mg level of uranlum a preclslon of better than plus or minus 0.5% relatlve is easlly obtalned. (auth)
