The influence of the material used, the electronic photomultiplier, and the measuring circuit oa the resolution of time interval measurements by scintillation counters are reviewed. Different values may be obtained for the duration of the scintillation for different samples of the same material because of the effect exerted by external factors such as the type of radiation, the temperature and the purity of the sample. The form of the anodic current pulse corresponding to a scintillation depends on the relationship between the duration of the scintillation and the time-of- flight of the electrons in the photomultiplier. ln the design of the measuring circuit care must be taken to keep the parasitic capacitance as low as possible. The measuring circuit records the pulse when its instantaneous value exceeds the discrimination threshold, therefore amplitude fluctuations are noted by time fluctuations. (TTT)
