TRAWSFYNYDD POWER STATION. PART 2. REACTOR VESSEL FABRICATION
Fabrication techniques used in the eonstruction of the re actor pressure vessels for the Trawsfynydd power station are described. Welding techniques and erection methods are described in particular for the 61-ft lD sphere fabricated from 3t//-in.-thick mild steel boiler plate. The sphere is nnounted on a 25 ft li in. diameter steel skirt that extends upward through the base of the spherical shell by a special forged cruciform section. The cruciform forms an internal flanged skirt for supporting the fabricated grid structure, on which rests the graphite nnoderator core. Diagrams of the welding positions are given. The radiographic inspection tests for the vessel are also described. (N.W.R.)
