A welded structure is designed for a reactor pressure vessel to which one or more support skirts are welded along an annular zone. In this structure, the annular zone of the pressure vessel comprises a connecting ring with a plurality of flanges to which aie welded the skirts and the two complementary portions oi the vessel on each side of the annular zone. The bending stresses associated with hydraulic tests may be reduced by constructing the complementary portions of the vessel with different radii of curvature. An embodiment of the welded structure with a cruciform-shaped connecting ring is described for gascooled reactors. (D.L.C.)
