IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO PRESSURE VESSELS
An improved closure flange for a large pressure vessel, such as a vessel for a pressurized water reactor, is patented. The flange construction eliminates the disadvantages, which are inherent in very thick flanges, of slow rate of temperature change and high probability of imperfections in the flange metal. The flange is for the pressure vessel and for its closure cap and is formed with an internal annular passageway. An aperture provides access to the passageway from outside the flange. The passageway may be formed by a tubular ring of metal embedded in weld material machined to a desired flange shape, or it may be formed between rings welded together to form the flange, Means are provided for heating or cooling the flange utilizing the internal passageway.
