An apparatus for measuring the total radioactivity of air is designed which can carry out measurements in a continuous manner. The apparatus comprises a separation chamber, means for flowing an air stream through the chamber, a separating electrode in the form of a band driven through the chamber parallel to the air stream, means for generating ions in the stream and for providing an electrical field in the chamber, and a detector located adjacent the band and beyond the chamber for measuring the radioactivity of particles deposited on the band.
