An apparatus is designed to detect fission products ln the coolant gas of gas-cooled reactors. The apparatus comprises a pressure vessel, a precipitation chamber, a radiation detector, and pulley means for guiding a wire conductor through the precipitation chamber and detector. The pulley means is driven by a gas pressure motor powered by pressure differentials in the coolant circuit. The apparatus is compact in form and efficient in operation over a long period without servicing. (D.L.C.)
