S>A Cherenkov detector apparatus is designed for monitoring the power of a reactor having water coolant or high pressure gas coolant. The apparatus comprises a ducting for carrying the coolant to the detector and a photoelectric device for measuring the Cherenkov radiation. In the case of water coolant, most of the radioactivity is due to N/sup 16/ and the detection circuit can be set to detect only fission products and N/sup 16/. (D.L.C.)
