THE ACTION OF GONADS ON THE CONCENTRATION OF RADIO-IODINE BY THE SUBMAXILLARY GLAND OF C$sub 3$H MICE

Journal Article · · Revue Canadienne de Biologie (Canada)
OSTI ID:4827709
The I/sup 131/ submaxillary/I/sup 131/ blood ratio of normal C/sub 3/H male mice, receiving doses of 5 mu c, is higher than the submaxillary/blood ratio of normal C/sub 3/H female mice. This sexual difference does not disappear after castration. The male castrated mice show a higher submaxillary/blood ratio than normal animals and no modification is observed in castrated females. Thus the sexual difference is more evident in castrated animals. Testosterone propionate, at doses of 10 mu g or 20 mu g during 14 and 13 days, respectively, restores in the male mice the changes produced by castration. Estradiol benzoate administered to the castrated female at doses of 0.5 mu g and 5 mu g during 6 and 7 days, respectively, decreases the submaxillary/blood ratio in relation to the given dose. (auth)
