A Sexual Difference in the Concentration of Iodine-131 by the Submaxillary Gland of Mice
Findings are reported on the sexual difference in the iodine- concentrating capacity of submaxillary glands of mice. Sixty-one male and forty female C3H mice were injected intraperitoneally with 5 mu c of carrier-free solution of I131. One hour later the submaxillary gland was removed and blood collected under ether anesthesia. The glands and blood were weighed and radioactivity measured in a well counter. The results are tabulated. These results show that there is a sexual difference in the capacity to concentrate iodine by the submaxillary gland of mice.
