DETERMINATION OF $sup 239$U FROM THE (n,$gamma$) REACTION OF 14.5 Mev NEUTRONS WITH $sup 238$U

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4823405
A method for the separation of uranium from daughter elements and fission products and the subsequent determination of uranium-239 is described. The object of the determination was the evaluation of the cross section for the reaction U/sup 238/(n, gamma )U/sup 239/ at neutron energies of 14.5 Mev. The neutron flux, the time available for bombardment, and the quantity of target material which could be used were limited. For these reasons the uranium-239 separation was chosen in preference to that of its longer-lived daughter, neptunium-239. (auth)
