DISCHARGE DEVICE, ESPECIALLY FOR THE FUEL ELEMENTS OF A NUCLEAR REACTOR

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4821414
A discharge or lifting device is described for removing fuel elements from vertical channels of a nuclear reactor. This device comprises a heavy cylindrical body fitted at its lower end with at least three vertically and symmetrically placed bars. Each bar has two lateral opposite surfaces, which may be brought into contact with two opposite free vertical surfaces of the article to be lifted, and has at each of these surfaces a recess, each containing a small ball or a small roller. The ball is freely movable inside said recess touching the said vertical surfaces of the article, so that at the moment when the device is lifted this ensures that the balls press against the article and thus couple it with the lifting device by wedging.
