EFFECT OF ROENTGEN RADIATION ON THE PHYSICOCHEMICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF HEMOGLOBIN IN RADIATION SICKNESS OF ANIMALS (in Ukrainian)

Data are presented on experimental studies of the electrophoretic mobility of hemoglobin (Hb) in agar gel, its amino-acid composition, the process of dissociation, and the absorption curves of oxyhemoglobin (HbO/sub 2/) of dogs subjected to x irradiation in doses of 600-700 r. It is shown that soon after irradiation Hb migration in the electric field changed in dependence on the development and course of radiation sickness. The rate of Hb migration at the same times reflects the phase character of radiation sickness. Irradiation of animals does not exert a substantial effect on the nature of the HbO/sub 2/ absorption curves. In irradiated dogs the quantity of sulfur-containing amino acids in the Hb hydrolysate was found to be considerably lower, and in some tests it was not detected altogether chromatically. A study of the process of HbO/sub 2/ dissociation in the erythrocyte suspension indicates a functional disturbance of Hb. Thus, during radiation sickness in dogs, the physicochemical and biological properties of Hb are altered, which places the radiation syndrome among the pathological processes connected with the molecular pathology of hemoglobin.
