Porphyrin bodies in the urine and the blood of l6 patients who received fractionated radiotherapy in the non-recurrent period after radical resection of malignant tumors were measured 1, 6, and 24 hours after the 7th and 2lst session. In the urine, a slight temporary increase of porphyrin bodies was observed 6 hours after the 7th irradiation. One hour after the 2lst irradiation, porphyrin bodies were increased and did not recover even at 24 hours. Excretion of porphyrin bodies in the urine was maximal at 6 hours after irradiation and was distinct when the upper abdoimen or the liver was irradiated. The change in blood porphyrin was slight. Patients with severe radiation sickness showed an increased excretion of porphyrin bodies in the urine. (Abstr. Japan Med., 1 No. 13, 1961)
