INVESTIGATION OF ELECTRONIC AND NUCLEAR PROPERTIES OF SOME RARE EARTH ISOTOPES (thesis)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4813050
Electronic and nuclear properties of several rare earth ~sotopes were investigated with the atomic-beam magnetic resonance technique. The spins of Ho/ sup 161/, Er/sup 165/, Pr/sup 143/, and Nd/sup 149/ were found and are tabulated. From the J-level assignment for holmium and its measured g/sub j/ value, an electronic configuration of 4f/sup 11/6s/sup 2/ is inferred. The magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole interaction constants were measured for Pm/sup 147/ and Pm/sup 151/. A best-fit value for g/sub j/ was also found in analyzing the data on promethium isotopes and values for the nuclear moments were deduced. An interpretation of the results as well as a description of the technique used to obtain them is given. (auth)
