SHIELDING CALCULATIONS AND DOSE-RATE PREDICTIONS FOR DAPHNE REACTOR
Technical Report
·
OSTI ID:4811928
An analysis is made of the dose rates to be expected outside the shield of the reactor DAPHNE at a power of 100 watts and inside the shield when the reactor is shut down. It is shown that the dose rate outside the radial shield should not exceed 6 mr/hr. The dose rate above the top shield (the weakest point) is unlikely to exceed 28 mr/hr. However, if the core is loaded throughout with Mark III fuel elements containing empty thimbles and no plugs, the dose rate might approach 90 mr/hr. The activities of the fuel elements and control arms are examined and dose rates calculated outside fuel element flasks of various thicknesses of lead. (auth)
