Processing of a demonstration set of three unalloyed uranium outer tubes showed that a process is available to produce the initial loading of outer tubes for the HWCTR. Two 2-inch tubes were extruded for the study of the effect of restraint on fuel swelling during irradiation. Postextrusion evaluation is proceeding on these 2-inch tubes and on 1-inch tubes that were extruded previously. A program has been initiated to prepare outer tubes with cores of U- 1 wt % Si and U-0.3 wt % Al-0.5wt% Si. (B.O.G.)
