Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4801373
An additional 1-inch tube (No. 136), extruded for the restraint program, andd two previously extruded 2-inch tubes (Nos. 132 and 133) are ready for the autoclave test. The U-0.3 wt.% Al--0.5 wt.% Si experimental tube was processed through autoradiography, which showed that the cladding thickness is within specifications. A suitable facility for the heat treatment of fuel tubes was installed at the Watertown Arsenal. This facility was used for beta treatment of the three tubes for the restraint program and the U-Al-Si tube. A program was initiated to adapt established brazing techniques to the end capping for HWCTR fuel tubes. The necessary brazing equipment was assembled and its performance was demonstrated. The procedures are being refined and evaluated. (auth)
