STUDY ON THE RADIATION PROTECTIVE EFFECT OF RUTIN IN WHOLEBODY IRRADIATION OF WHITE MICE (in German)

Journal Article · · Strahlentherapie (West Germany)
OSTI ID:4798447

>Experimental investigations done in 105 white mice of a heterozygous breed showed that rutin has a radiation protection effect when administered after 600 r of wholebody irradiation. A mechanism unknown in the past is assumed, because the radiation protection substances published previously have shown a protection effect only if given before irradiation. It is assumed, that the effect of rutin is caused, mainly, by a sealing of vessels and membranes. The mean survival time was 9 days for the animal group irradiated with x rays only. It could be increased up to 24 days by additional administration of 5 mg rutin over a period of 10 days. At the same time the average body weight did not decrease at the same rate as that of the animals irradiated only. (auth)
