THE SWITCHING TIME OF A TUNNEL DIODE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4795539
The switching time is evaluated by dividing the voltagecurrent characteristic curve of a tunnel diode into four regions. The switching time for each region is calculated and compared with the value observed, operating the tunnel diode as a monostable multivibrator. Prediction of the switching time is also made when the tunnel diode is biased by a current generator and is triggered by a current pulse. A voltage-pulse-height discriminator is described, and the threshold equation is given, The linearity, pulse resolving ability, and the temperature characteristics are studied. The threshold variation due to the ambient temperature variation is attributed to the peak current variation. (auth)
