The application of tunnel diode discriminators to high pulse rate counting circuitry imposes special requirements on the associated counting apparatus. Some circuit modifications are discussed which are desirable for the use of tunnel diode discriminators to accept high level data pulses in the presence of a high rate of low level background pulse (i.e., to prevent pulse pile-up''), and in another application to discriminate against low level pulses in the presence of a high rate of data pulses (i.e., discrimination without significant loss of resolving time).
