EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES ON THE COMBINED EFFECTS OF RADIATION AND VARIOUS CHEMICALS ON MITOTIC CELLS. XXIII. EFFECTS OF COMBINED USE OF X-RAYS AND IGROCIN
Using MTK sarcoma IIIof rat, 3-4 days after transplantation, the effect of igrocin, a mercurial preparation, on the mitosis was studied. Igrocin alone caused a transient increase in the frequency of mitosis (20--200%) at one hour after injection in proportion to the amount injected. The mitotic cells in the metaphase increased considerably, while the mitotic cells in the telophase decreased. Abnormal chromosomes showing signs of adhesiveness, swelling, and condensation were observed in the metaphase: retardation of mItosis, and chromosomal bridges appeared in the anaphase. Injection of igrocin be fore single whole-body x irradiation of 200 r shortened the time of restoration of the mitotic index considersbly and the effect was most powerful when x irradiation was carried out 3 hr after igrocin was injected. When igrocin was applied after x irradiation, no special effect of igrocin was noted. (Abstr. Japan Med., 2, No. 2, Feb. 1962)
