EFFECT OF X-RAY RADIATION OF DEHYDRO-ASCORBIC ACID METABOLISM

Journal Article · · Vitamins (Kyoto)
OSTI ID:4795268

Dehydro-ascorbic acid metabolism and the effect of x irradiation on the metabolism were studied by means of the method of quantitative determination of ascorbic acid utilizing the strong alkaline color reaction. Little dehydroascorbic acid is found in the urine and the various organs of the normal rabbit and it is rapidly reduced or dissolved in vitro as well as in vivo. The reduction capacity was decreased by a minimal amount of x radiation. This decrease is not due to the alarm reaction, but some factor other than the SH- radical has a relation to it. (Abstr.
