EFFECT OF LOCAL X-IRRADIATION TO THE ADRENAL AND TESTICULAR REGION ON THE METABOLISM OF TRYPTOPHAN
L-Tryptophan was given to mice after local x irradiation to the adrenal and testicular region and the metabolic products excreted in the urine were examined. In the case of adrenal irradiation no definite effect was observed in the metabolism of tryptophan after 100 r had been given but some decrease of kynurenin and anthranilic acid occurred following irradiation with 300 r. After x irradiation of 1200 r, it was possible to detect xanthurenic acid which is apparently an abnormal metabolic product in the urine resulting from disturbance of tryptophan metabolism while this effect was not seen after x irradiation of less than 600 r. Similar results were obtained in the case of irradiation of the testicular region. (Abstr. Japan Med., 2, No 1, Jan.
