A total irradiation of 600 r given to rats entails a latent deficiency of vitamin B/sub 6/ which becomes manifest after administration of 100 mg tryptophan. At the same time there can be observed an increased excretion of xanthurene acid in the urine. The supply of 1 mg B/sub 6/ maintained for two or three days, prevents these dysregulations of the protein metabolism, but it has no influence on the course of the leukopenia. The latter thus has to be considered as an independent symptom of the radiogenic damage. (auth)
