EFFECT OF X-IRRADIATION ON THE METABOLISM OF TRYPTOPHAN. (English Text)

Journal Article · · Wakayama Med. Repts.
OSTI ID:4795266
ABS>The whole abdomen, liver region or thigh, of rabbit was x irradiated by a single exposure dose of 600 or 1000 r, following the injection of L- tryptophan. Twenty-four hours after the injection an increase of xanthurenic acid and kynurenin and a decrease of anthranilic acid were found, which may indicate that the metabolic process from kynurenin to anthranilic acid is disturbed. One of the factors conducive to the metabolic disorder of tryptophan is apparently the presence of peroxide produced in the blood plasma after x irradiation. (Abstr. Japan Med., 2, No. 1, Jan. 1962)
