MORPHOLOGY OF EARLY CHANGES IN THE CYTOPLASM OF LIVER CELLS AFTER IRRADIATION (in German)

Electron microscopic investigations of early changes in the cytoplasm of liver cells were done in mice irradiated with 150, 300, and 450 r and rats irradiated with 800, ation. A decrease in the ergastoplasmatic lamellae was shown for all doses; increasing doses caused an increasing vacuolization of the remaining cavities. The basic structure of the cytoplasm condenses and, at the same time, above 3200 r, vacuoles are formed. Mitochondria show a tendency to form clods during all experiments and lie, preferably, at nucleus and cell membrane. This reaction is less distinct at 9600 r. Destructions of the internal structure of mitochondria begin to appear at 3200 r. The mitochondria start swelling and the cristae are degraded at 6400 r. Increased lipid bodies in the plasma and dark enclosures in the vacuoles appear. (auth)
