Zircon samples, gathered from Yongsanpo, Korea, were separated through magnetic separator and pulverized by ball mill over 250 mesh. In the alkali fusion process, it is considered that zircon is decomposed not only into sodium zirconate but also into a comparatively large part of complex compound of zirconium and silicon in a sodium salt such as sodium silicozirconate. The latter resulted in the formation of gelatinous silica when fusion products are dissolved into mineral acid. The best conditions for decomposition of Korean zircon ores were particle sizes smaller than 250 mesh, mixed with double ratio of flake form c ustic soda and fused at 650 plus or minus 10 deg C for two hours.
