Journal Article · · Sumitomo Denki (Japan)
OSTI ID:4784753
The types of radiation sources, dosages, initial reaction mechanism, and effects on high polymers are summarized. The effects on irradiated polyethylene (below 10/sup 6/ rad) were reviewed with respect to reaction scheme, the generation of gases, the formation of unsaturated bonds, the relationship between cross-linking and galation rate, molecular weight, crystallinity variation, mechanical strength, thermal deformability, oxidation resistancy, electrical properties, and chemical resistivity. The results showed that the irradiated polyethylene could be used as a material for electric wires and films. (OID)
