RADIATION-INDUCED POLYMERIZATION OF CYANURIC CHLORIDE

The results of irradiating trichloro-s-triazine by gamma rays in the solid phase are reported. The polymerization yield was determined gravimetrically. A 69.8% yield of white powder was obtained by irradiation at 3 x 10/sup 4/ r/hr up to 1.35 x 10/sup 5/ r at 16 deg C and a pale yellow powder of 61.8% yield was obtained at 5 x 10/sup 3/ r/hr up to 8.04 x 10/sup 5/ r at 100 deg C. The polymer obtained was insoluble in methyl alcohol and benzene, had a min mp of 260 deg C, and an intrinsic viscosity in dimethylformamide of 0.1--0.2 at 30 deg C. (OID)
