$pi$$sup 0$-MESON PRODUCTION IN 8,4 Gev/c $pi$$sup -$-XENON NUCLEUS COLLISIONS

The inelastic interactions of 8,4 Bev/c pi /sup -/-mesons with Xe nuclei in the Xe bubble chamber were investigated. The energy spectrum and the angular distribution of secondary photons were measured. The possibility of correlating photon pairs into individual pi /sup 0/-mesons is shown. The energy spectrum of pi /sup 0/-mesons consists of a low energy part up to 0.6 Bev and a high energy tail. The mean transverse momentum (p/sub T//sub pi /0/=(0.36 plus or minus 0.04) Bev/c. (auth)
